Aikido @ KC's Fitness: Buffalo, NY

Aikido Class Schedule Monday 7:00pm -- 8:45pm Wednesday 7:00pm -- 8:45pm Saturday 3:00pm -- 5:00pm Background on Aikido: Aikido (way of spiritual harmony) is a modern martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba in 1942. From his studies of Daito-Ryu Jujitsu and other sword and spear arts, he created an art consisting of throws and pins in order to deal with physical violence as peacefully and as effectively as possible. Because of its martial roots, Aikido could be dangerous if practiced without care and concern for safety. It is for this reason, plus his spiritual convictions, that Ueshiba forbade the practice of sparring in his art. Aikido is practiced in a spirit of cooperation in order to provide mental and physical growth among its practitioners. It is said that Aikido develops strength, but does not depend on strength and develops speed, but does not depend on speed. Aikido No Kokoro (the heart of Aikido) is an independent approach to the study of Aikido that emphasizes the development of the coordination of mind and body. Kevin Cunningham Talk @ Empire State College: Q & A

Recently Kevin Cunningham gave a talk at Empire State College on The Ethics & Social Responsibility of a Business in the Community. Here's some info about Kevin and his talk. Kevin has owned KC's Fitness since 1992. The latter has distinguished itself has a top rate personal training facility. In addition to the being a unique neighborhood gym, KC's offers training in boxing, mixed martial arts and traditional martial arts. It was the first fitness facility in WNY to integrate training in boxing and martial arts based fitness programs to the exercising public. He employs eight instructors, and five have been at KC's for ten or more years. The facility has over three hundred members and most have been there for five or more years. Many local college and high school athletes have embraced his unique approach to training, and Kevin has conducted hundreds of seminars for athletes over the last ten years. He graduated from SUNY Buffalo in 1986 with a BA in history. He went onto graduate school but left after three semesters to start his business. He has trained extensively in the martial arts and western boxing since 1982, and holds a black belt in the Japanese martial art of Aikido. Kevin also has been an an adjunct professor at Hilbert College where he has taught martial arts and boxing since 2005. In addition to his work in the fitness and martial arts, Kevin has devoted himself to numerous community projects. He has personally raised a quarter million dollars to reforest the Elmwood Village district, organized hundreds of community beautification cleanups, supported numerous local charities, and conducted conflict resolution, and martial arts training for inner city youths. Most of his work with young people over the years has been performed at First Presbyterian Church where he has helped implement their Fight Back program. The latter focuses on empowering inner city children through martial arts, and various other after school activities. Kevin on "The Ethics & Social Responsibility of a Business in the Community"... I believe that the idea of success in business needs to be expanded. A profitable company should do more than grow its earnings. Businesses should profit the community where they exists. Our work with neighborhood beautification, and inner city kids stems from a deep belief that businesses need to be invested in the communities where they function. Certainly, providing customers an excellent product, and year end profits are much of the picture, but not all of it. It is our belief that all businesses should serve a cause that is larger than themselves; we see it has a moral imperative. Be Great! www.KCsFitness.com Produced by: www.Peracciny.com
